More Than Just Beautiful Art
Island Indigo textiles are individually hand dyed in an indigo vat on Lady’s Island in Beaufort, South Carolina. Each piece flaunts its own unique design and is made of 100% natural materials.
Hours upon hours of work are put into every single one of our items. Dyeing with natural indigo is no easy task, but we are determined to create beautiful, quality pieces for our customers.
Our process is inspired by Eliza Lucas Pinckney (1722-1793) who revolutionized agriculture in colonial South Carolina where she developed indigo as a top cash crop (besides cotton and rice). She discovered and perfected the intricate, thousand-year-old process of making indigo dye.
We draw inspiration from Eliza and the sea to create works of art on our scarves, totes, hair accessories, and more — just for you. Whether you’re looking for a piece of revived history, a keepsake to remind you of your time on the island, or simply love the color blue as much as we do, your Island Indigo piece is waiting for you.
